April 2007 - Meeting Minutes - Seaford Middle School Faculty Room
Seaford Wellness Council Meeting Monday, April 16, 2007
The meeting started at 7:30pm. Ken Nersesian stated that the gazebo incurred some vandalism. First it received some graffiti, which Ken took
care of, and then someone tried to remove a bench, with rods protruding from the base. He stated he needed to talk to the town about putting a
lock on the electrical box. He also stated that pigeons have become a problem and had various examples of pigeon diversion products. There
are a couple of boy scouts who are working on their Eagle Scout project who are eager to help with landscaping the gazebo and World War l
Memorial area.
The Library is planning on utilizing the gazebo with a concert on 08 /11/07. There was talk about having the American Legion have a Veteran's
Day service at the War Memorial, which is near the gazebo.
Finance Report: we received a $100 donation from the American Legion and $750 from the Chamber of Commerce for the War Memorial
planting. The balance is $2,936.39 We are expecting $3,750 before the end of April or early May as the balance of the Sen Fuschillo grant.
We are expecting $5,000 from the Nassau County Youth Board grant.
We were approached from several clubs and organizations who wanted us to fund their activities: SHS Computer Club needs $350 for
transportation for competition, the SHS Forensics club would like The Wellness Counsel to fund, in part their competition for next year.
Healthy Dating, an assembly for 9th and 10th grader and Dating & Violence for 11th and 12th graders at SHS on 04/25/07 is asking for $250.
Sports Connection - an athletics organization supplying equipment for underprivileged athletes.
SHS is in need of a Breathalyzer for the senior prom scheduled for 006/07.
The council directors will meet to vote on these at a separate meeting.
Friday Night Live: A little over 20 chaperons were at the last event. It ran very smoothly. June 8th is the Carnival event. FNL is in need of two
Gatorade-style jugs.
Our own Michael Di Silvio was the recipient of the Patriot's Award. We are all proud of you, Mike!
National Trail Day will be 06/03/07 More information will be forthcoming. We are going to ask for assistance from the National Honor Society,
National Jr. Honor Society, HS Student Council and the Middle School Student Council. Mike will create a new flyer and distribute it to Barbara
Richko (Middle School), Dan Smith ( High School), Lucianne (Kiwanis Club), Carla Powell (Chamber) and the Fire Department.
Mike received an e-mail asking for help with the disappearing marinas in Seaford Harbor which is being sold to developers. There was a
discussion and a couple of organizations were suggested to forward the request. The meeting concluded at 8:30pm

Treasurers Report: $6,621.53 a/o 5/15/07
National Trail Day will require volunteers and equipment such as gloves, trash bags and refreshments. Dates for Friday Night Live events will be set
soon with the school district. A vote was taken and approved to contribute $650.00 to the SEPTA Spring Dance which will be held on the same night
as FNL in June. The Wellness Council was invited to march in the Memorial Day Parade. 10AM start. The Library Festival will be held at the Gazebo on
August 11th. The concept of a "Seaford Idol" or "Talent Show" type event for the High School was discussed. Ted Fulton will discus with Mr. Ragon.
Michael Di Silvio transferred custody of the Wellness computer to Barbara DeLeon. The gazebo is in need of a permanent sign and landscaping and
the World War L Memorial must be completed by September 1, as we need to move on to other projects. Our priorities include: finalizing all the
current grants as well as preparation for the next FNL on June 8th.
