September 25, 2006 - Meeting Minutes - Seaford Middle School Library
The meeting was opened at 7:30pm by Michael Di Silvio
Attendance: Angela Egan, Ken Nersesian, Sarah Holly, Michael Di Silvio, Don Paulson, Barbara De Leon, Barbara Richko, Warren Van Der Water, Peter Ruffner
Michael stated that the focus of this meeting is to "finish up things we started", such as Washington Avenue Park project ( the county has taken over the project)
and the gazebo (benches need better reinforcements into the ground).
The new brochures were passed out yesterday at the Middle School and tonight at open house. Others were passed out to major sponsors.
Grants: we need to focus our efforts.
Hot Chocolate Run: Growing yearly. We need more runners. Last year local support and contributions were coming in already. Michael suggested council contact John
Griffin, the high school coach be contacted to encourage team to enter centipedes , as well as encourage other high school teams.
Grants: 2006: $5000; Leg D. Denenberg, 2007: $10000; Leg. D. Denenberg, 2006 $10000 ;Sen. Fuschillo (07/01/06-06/30/07), 2007 $15000; Sen. Fuschillo
(07/01/07-06/30/08). We still have to apply if we have line items in the budget. We need to send a letter now for the 2008/2008 year. The deadline is 04/01/08. This
needs to be done before Christmas.
Beautification
Gazebo: Ken reported spindles are in the process of being replaced. Permanent plaques are reserved for the Seaford Chamber of Commerce, the Seaford Kiwanis Club
and the Seaford Wellness Council. An box is being placed over the outlet . Mike will follow up with Angie Cullen.
Washington Avenue Park Project
Peter reported that Commissioner Lopez plans to do a walk through, but no date has yet been set. The adult football club has been refused to use the field.
Friday Night Live:
Barbara Richko will be out on a medical leave from 10/22-11/13. She has games and prizes set up and Peter has a magician set up.
SETPA:
We will continue to help with their Spring dance.
Hot Chocolate Run:
During the Homecoming game on 10/13/07 we will have a table with race applications. The Lions Club will sponsor the first place male/female trophy. The Key Club
guarantees 10 students to volunteer to help with the race. Letters for sponsorship went out last year on 10/5/07. Food sponsors will be changed to $500.
Library Festival :
In August a concert was sponsored in the gazebo by the library. 140-150 people attended. "It was a great time:" stated Peter. . The RR kept the bathrooms open. They
will definitely do it again next . The Library would like the Wellness Council to co-sponsor an event.
Logo contest
It was offered to the High School students and a $250 award was offered. No one has submitted a logo. Angela will talk to Mrs. Manning, Chairperson of the Art
Department at Seaford High School.
The Library's 50th Anniversary Celebration
Set for 10/14/07 from 2-4. Wellness Council agreed to pay for the frame of the mural by Cliff Miller that will be donated to the library .by the Friends of Seaford Library.
Bullying
A program from Rachel's Challenge will be offered at Parent University which will be presented at Wantagh HS.
Michael received an e-mail from a new Seaford resident who is a pharmacist. The pharmacist is wiling to discuss dieting, dangers in prescription medications and obesity
to the general public. Peter suggested the forum be presented to the senior citizens in Seaford, so to include all Seaford Citizens into the wellness spectrum.
WWI Memorial
Needs more work. The boy scouts will do planting before frost. Mike will talk to Sharon about purchasing more shrubs and flowers.
Sarah Holly discussed post prom events. Mike will talk to Pat Gallagher.
