Michael Di Silvio opened the meeting by greeting all those present.

Don Paulson introduced Steven Nicola and Sue Nicola to the group.  Steven was seeking approval from the Wellness Council for his Eagle Scout project.  Don familiarized the group with Eagle Scout project
procedures.  Steven presented his project to the group.  The project involves restoring the gazebo at the Seaford train station.  Steven entertained suggestions and questions from members of the group.  
Wellness Council members approved the plan for the project.

There was a discussion of a clean up of the World War I Memorial.  Don Paulson indicated that a local troop or Troop 239 would undertake the project.

Mike Di Silvio discusses a letter requesting support for another Eagle Scout project to be performed by a member of Troop 239.  The group votes and agrees to make a contribution to the project.

The March 2009 Friday Night Live was successful.  

National Trails Day will be held on June 6, 2009 at Tackapausha Preserve.  Preparations are underway and members of Wellness Council have been working with employees at Tackapausha.

Michael Di Silvio discussed the upcoming European handball tournament that is to take place at the Middle School.  He indicated that preparations are being made for the event.

Chris Schneider from Senator Fuschillo’s office discussed the current economic climate in Albany.  Michael Di Silvio told Mr. Schneider about all of the problems involving vandalism at the gazebo.  Mr.
Schneider made note of this situation.

Michael Di Silvio opened the meeting by greeting all those present.

Brian Conboy gave a presentation of the Seaford School District’s 2009-2010 budget.

There was a discussion about Steven Nicola’s Eagle Scout project to restore the gazebo at the train station.  The project is to take place on Saturday, May 2.  Ken Nersesian suggests that the Wellness Council
sign to be erected at the site be framed by wood to make it more aesthetically pleasing.  The design of the sign is approved.  The Nicolas explain that the benches will be power washed and the graffiti
cleaned off.  Michael Di Silvio states that Angie Cullen’s office will install a surveillance camera at the gazebo.  Sue Nicola confirms that this has been done already.  The Nicolas tell the group that there is a
camera mounted in the parking lot and they have a sign indicating the presence of the camera.  In addition, the benches will be secured and anchored with bolts.

Legislator Denenberg would like to see more events at the gazebo so that it becomes part of the community.

Ken Nersesian suggests that the Wellness Council host a re dedication of the gazebo after it is restored. This will be an opportunity to thank Troop 239. He proposes that various community groups be invited.

Don Paulson indicates that Troop 239 will maintain the World War I memorial the Saturday before Memorial Day.   

The Next Friday Night Live will be on June 5.  It will have a carnival theme and will also include Wii and Guitar Hero.  Michael Di Silvio indicates a need to improve dismissal procedures at this event.  
Barbara Richko will send the chaperons out to control dismissal better.

Michael Di Silvio begins a discussion of the team handball tournament to be held at the Middle School on May 15.  A flyer will be distributed to the students.  Wellness Council will have a 50/50 and sell
snacks. There is a discussion of prizes to be awarded and t-shirts to be given out.

The group discussed National Trails Day, which is June 6.  Lucie Dean gives the group a check from the Seaford Lion’s Club that will be used to host a bar-b-que after the clean up.

Michael Di Silvio opened the meeting by greeting all those present.

Team Handball: A discussion was held with Cara Cacioli regarding rescheduling the team handball tournament.  Michael Di Silvio will coordinate a date on next year’s calendar for a future tournament.

Gazebo: Michael Di Silvio indicated that the refurbished gazebo looks beautiful.  The sign and surrounding landscaping also look great.

World War I Memorial: The World War I Memorial ‘s landscaping is complete.  Angela Egan will contact a company to have the bronze plaque restored and cleaned.  Sharon Jonas indicated that the Town of
Hempstead will water the newly planted flowers.  She will confirm the schedule.

Washington Avenue Park: Peter Ruffner informed the group that work will begin shortly at the park.

Friday Night Live: Barbara Richko has ordered supplies for the upcoming Friday Night Live on June 5, as well as for future FNL’s.  Michael Di Silvio will get prizes for Guitar Hero.  

National Trails Day: National Trails Day is June 6.  Michael Di Silvio asks that Wellness Council members arrive at Tackapausha 8:30 for a 9:00 start.  Michael indicated that he expects Boy Scouts, Girl
Scouts, and Key Club members to volunteer.  He will have shirts for the volunteers.  A bar-b-que will follow the clean-up.  

New Business: The “Be Smart. . .” assembly will take place at the Manor School on June 24.

The Seaford Historical Society’s Harvest Fair will take place on September 27.  Michael Di Silvio suggested that the Wellness Council sponsor a pet fair during it.  The group discussed various categories for
judging. Members of the group will be contacting several stores and veterinarians’ offices to participate.

Ken Nersesian suggested that the group look into having trees planted along Sunrise Highway by the train station.  He will contact the Town of Hempstead with a plan regarding this.

The group discussed purchasing benches to be placed by the World War I Memorial.

Chris Schneider informed the group about an upcoming small business expo at the Knights of Columbus in Seaford on May 28 from 4:30-6:30.

Treasurer’s Report:
Angela Egan gave a report.  Wellness Council has $9815.47 on hand.  Funds were given to SEPTA for a recent dance.  Michael Di Silvio indicated that a grant is forthcoming.

Gazebo:
Michael Di Silvio will meet with the police regarding the damaged flowerpot.  

Washington Ave. Park:
Peter Ruffner indicated that work should start by the end of June.  

Friday Night Live:
Barbara Richko told the group that the evening was a success.  Michael Di Silvio requested that chaperones be given more direction in the future.

Miscellaneous
- Ken Nersesian sent a letter with a diagram and pictures to Angie Cullen.  The letter expresses interest in planting trees along Sunrise Highway by the train station. Ken heard back from Angie Cullen who
indicated that she sent the diagram along to the town’s engineering department.
- National Trails Day was a success.  
- Coleen Graziose will attend the “Be Smart” assembly at the Manor School on June 24.
