having Community Walk-Runs and Health
Fairs. 2) Organizing, promoting and
carrying out endeavors which beautify
the community and environment, parks
and other public places of gathering with
the purpose of fostering healthy
interaction, socialization and fellowship
within the Seaford community. 3)
Creating activities and presentations
which address issues of substances
abuse, nutrition, smoking, gender bias,
violence and physical and mental health.
The Wellness Council thanks all volunteers for their fine efforts which have made National Trail Day a success in Seaford for four years in a row.

On June 4, 2005 the members of the
Seaford Wellness Council organized a
Spring Clean-Up in conjunction with
Nassau County Executive Thomas
Suozzi's "Nassau County Parks Are
Making A Comeback" Campaign".
Clubs and organizations present were
the Chamber of Commerce, the Boy
Scouts, Girl Scouts, St. William the
Abbot Youth Group, the 7th Precinct
POP Unit, and Seaford High School
Students.
Curator Carol Ryder educated the
volunteers on the history of the
preserve, (the first in Nassau County),
current renovation plans and the
importance
of volunteer assistance to keep the
preserve maintained. She then split
the volunteers into groups who
proceeded to clean various areas of
the preserve.
Nassau County Executive Thomas
Suozzi, Legislator David Denenberg,
and Legislator David Mejias, arrived to
update the group on the County effort
to restore our parks and preserves.
On June 3, 2006 the members of the Seaford Wellness Council participated in a clean-up of the Tackapausha Preserve.
Also participating were members of the Lions Club and Boy Scouts as well as other members of the community. The volunteers were split into groups and combed the preserve picking up debris around the museum, ponds and trails. Members discovered an elaborate man-made trail of wooden planks leading through high reeds to a make-shift shelter. In and around the shelter were plastic boxes, shopping carts, tiki torches and many beer cans and bottles, all of which were dismantled and removed.
The Wellness Council thanks all who participated in the clean-up as well as Carole Ryder and assistant Wendy for assisting with this effort and providing educational facts about the Preserve.
We wish to repeat this clean-up in the fall.
